EPISODE 1 — The Man Nobody Knew
Nobody in three counties knew Tank’s real name.
They knew the beard, down to his chest. The vest, heavy with patches. The knuckle tattoos, earned one letter at a time in places he never talked about. They knew his Harley could be heard two miles out on a still night, and that smart men found somewhere else to be when it pulled in.
What nobody knew — what nobody had ever asked — was why a man built like a fortress flinched every single time a dog barked.
It happened at the gas station last spring. A kid’s beagle yipped at him from a pickup bed, and Tank — three hundred pounds of biker — went white and took two steps back. Spider saw it. Didn’t say a word. But he saw.
That night, around the fire behind the clubhouse, one of the younger brothers asked the question nobody asked.
“Tank. You hate dogs or something?”
The fire crackled. Tank stared into it for a long time.
“No,” he said finally. “I loved one. Once.”
And for the first time in twenty years, Thomas “Tank” Kowalski started talking.
